going straight to the code.
even if the document is valid xhtml doesn't nessesary make it correct xhml, in xhtml one should focus on to make the document wellformed, semantical and structual,. you seem very fond of the br-tag, seldom should there be any reason to use this tag if you use the correct for the right job, the tags should enhance the content within. use unordered list for menues, and other data that is natural as lists. use h[1-6]-tags for headings, use p for paragraph, don't use br's read more about semantic markup here. http://www.camaban.co.uk/semanticwhat.php http://www.webaim.org/techniques/structure/ |

You're "News Desk" thing won't go away when I click "close news desk" on Firefox, and because of that around a third or a half of your site is permanently blocked (unless I remove the CSS manually through the editCSS plugin/extension, or by changing to "Basic Style" rather than the "currentStyle" stylesheet).

I browsed in Firefox, so lots of stuff didn't work. To be honest I found the site really confusing and difficult to navigate. Themes (or page styles) seem to change all the time.
I tried briefly in IE, to see what was supposed to be happening, but that didn't stop the confusion. In fact you have changed the design again, even more confusing and doesn't fit in the screen properly. It is diffucult to tell what the purpose of the actual site is, (MS or XHML)? As a side note, your front page doesn't conform to XHTML 1.0 strict. You state further on that it complies to XHML 1.1 IMHO, 1.1 should be avoided for the time being, or at least until it is guaranteed that most browsers render it correctly, unless you provide a suitable alternative. HTH.

It's a nice site an' all . . . just wondering, have you considered using wordpress? It's a standards based publishing system and highly customisable. I've just installed it and use it as a blog. You can customise it with your own template so you provide the design while retaining the very best XHTML structure.
A couple of sites built purely using wordpress: http://www.browsehappy.com http://www.rachelandrew.co.uk <---- a sitepoint.com author http://www.wordpress.org <----- and the wordpress site itself of course! Give it a look . . . could improve things for you immeasureably! Hope that helps some ![]() |
