http://www.thewildlifemuseum.org/newweb/education
This is a museum site (duh).
I'll probably add some graphics to the titlebar at the top and maybe change the colors a little bit for the navigation. The content is dull, but it almost has to be because it's pulling from SQL and will be edited via a CM. The only right-side link that works right now also is Exhibits. JiC: http://www.thewildlifemuseum.org/newweb/education Any suggestions would be appreciated. Well, I'm sure your aware of this, but your index is titled "untitled document", add a title... Other than that I'd say it looks good. Last edited by ArtDesign : August 11th, 2004 at 11:08 PM. Reason: wanted to add something |

Hi,
I like the site. It's simple and tells you what you need to know. There are just two things I don't like: 1) as you have mentioned. the multi-coloured buttons are a bit distracting. I would use maybe use a colour found in the site elsewhere. 2) the museum hours and other links at the top change the frame into a scrolling frame. Its a minor inconvenience. Maybe think about moving the links down one line to make more space for the changing text. Other than that its good. I hope thats not too brutal. |

read that tables are for: http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/struct/tables.html#h-11.1
the blue border around the whole thing seems a little pointless, it doesn't really tie the design together or anything else like that. I think the colours in the navigation bar need working on, perhaps different tones of the terracotta (or copper... whatever it is) colour. i like the black and white banner the site resizes nicely as for the content being dull, i would have to disagree, "touchable wildlife items" that gave be a right old chuckle. very nice, i like it edit, after reading bo!selecta's (welcome btw) i remembered i was going to say something about the museum hours bit, how about putting it in the sidebar, below navigation maybe?, it would clean up the look of the site. |

First off, I really do appreciate everyone's comments thus far. Any suggestions, critical or otherwise, help me to improve this design. For future reference, don't worry at all about being critical. I'm ultra-picky and have no reservations about insulting other people's work, so I expect the same. I don't take it personally, and I would hope others don't from me. I'm definitely a lot more of a developer than a designer though, so I may be posting stuff on this forum more often.

The colors and navigation have been a major problem thus far. I had them in that same blue as the border originally, but then you just didn't notice the navigation when you hit the page. I'm thinking of just doing a gradient thing with the blue, or maybe use different blues or something. But you're right, it needs to be a color that's already on the site. Quote:
These people are ultra-paranoid about anything even vaguely negative or critical about their museum. I originally had the design in black, but the marketing person didn't like it because she didn't want people construing that as a sign of death. The way they act, you'd think there were animal rights activists outside everyday. Quote:
It was suggested in a previous post that I move down the logo so that the text will fit without the scrollbar. Problem is, what if someone resizes, or changes the size of their text. Too many variables, so I may end up moving it to the left or right side, depending on what the client prefers. Again, thanks to all of you for your comments. -colin |

http://www.thewildlifemuseum.org/newweb/calendar/
So, I've changed it quite a bit and now seek some genuine, hard-faced criticism. (You know, slimey, really mean sort of stuff.)
http://www.thewildlifemuseum.org/newweb/calendar/ I give the calendar because it took me like 3 days to get the damn thing to work right. However, I'm not overly satisfied with that particular color. But, according to the powers-that-be, it is close to final, so I need some feedback. And of course, it would be very much appreciated. Oh, and it was mentioned before, so I'll respond to it: ignore the current homepage and any content within. That was not me, and I detour the trainwreck that it has become. Gracias en adelanto |
