I'm the first to post here

Hey everyone

Isnt that a privilege. I'm the first one to submit my site for review. I actually did post my questions in the Beginner forum, but did'nt get much response. So I'm hoping to get some good feedback from this forum.

Last week ,I started my website called Objects Development URL
This site basically offers services like Free project hosting, free code snippets and has a section for people to buy or sell their software.
I would like to know what you all think about this site. I would really appreciate any positive or negative feedbacks about the same.
Hoping to hear from you all.
Regards
Bill Bennet

Yep, I'm board. Lucky you! (maybe)

What's going on in the header image? There's words, or signs, or hieroglyphics, or something that I can't quite make out. Is that how it's suppose to be? Is the logo suppose to have a white background instead of a transparent one? Same with the main navigation. The site generally looks okay, that is, if you can get past that logo.

Are the "boxes" suppose to have boarders on the sides? I'm using Mozilla and I see the top image, and the bottom curved border, but nothing on the sides!

As for the code: It would be beneficial to put your JavaScript in a separate file. You should put this thing through the HTML validator at w3.org. I'm not saying every page needs to validate completely, but it'll help you catch unclosed tags and such.

I think the site was designed by The Software Objects - Heros little friend

You know, omarisoft and all that. We banned different versions of him about 5 times...

I'm with Jharnois- the banner is a bit off, especially the white bacgrounds for the logo and navigation buttons. I also think the links could be organized a bit better. They tend to all run together now. Maybe a small border around each category?

The homepage is too long. The Latest Listings section tacked onto the bottom of the page should be made into its own section w/in the site. There is just too much disorganized information on the homepage to be useful.

I'm not going to beat you up too much about the logo, since its already been said. I agree w/ whats already been said there.

I think the 'boxes w/o borders' look *could* work - however, you might consider using a slightly different background color for the boxes, such as light blue or light grey. The fact that there are no borders, plus the continuous white, make the boxes bleed too much into the main content. Its hard on the eyes.

Move the 'downloads' graphic up a bit; @ 800x600, you have to scroll before you really get to the meat & potatoes of the site, the download links. If this is your focus, put it out there as the first thing users will see. Also, you might consider some copy on the homepage, explaining what the site is and what users will find on it. Right now, it could be a bit ambiguous to someone coming to your site from anywhere but this post (where you've already explained what the site is supposed to do).

thankx for the advices

hey fellas

thanks for ur advices. I'll take them into consideration.
Meanwhile i need some more information. As some of you have already visited the site and have a pretty much idea about what it contains.

Could u tell me some sites where I can advertise. You know sites related to this so that I can get people to visit.......

And yeah, does anybody here know about Google Adsense...a friend of mine told me to apply for it, but i'm not sure whether now is the right time for doing it. I mean since the site is only a week old. I dont want to get rejected by them. Any suggestions.....Lemme know

Bill

I highly recommend using both Google and Overture to advertise your site.

You're in luck - the Devshed Network has a site dedicated to search engine placement and advertising - SEOChat.com.

Check it out - probably has a ton of useful info for you.
