LocateADoc.com - Competitive Site, would like a quick look over and review pls

Hi all,

URL

I am new to the forum and love this particular discussion board. If a few of you wouldn't mind reviewing our national doctor directory site and letting me know what you think, I'd appreciate it. We are working on redeveloping the site, but rather than me tell you what our plans are, I'd like to hear from you guys what you think could be improved or what you think works well. Criticism, even harsh, is welcome. Thanks.

Sincerely,
Chris Rizzo

Hi, your site already looks polished, but I'll be brave and make some minor observations

here goes ...

The "Get information about doctors in your area ..." slogan is too small. Maybe swap places with "A production of mojo Interactive"?

somehow, maybe because of the colors used, the "locate and Contact doctors" search area doesn't quite catch. I would bet its the fault of the low saturation purple color scheme. The search button blends too well with the background for example, it makes the whole space look like information instead of a call-to-action space.

Or its because the "Latest Listings" label is too large and grabs too much attention. My eyes are attracted to both spaces at once.

The "Womens Forum" partner banner and "brought to you by" banners makes the "Specials Sections" label look like an ad banner too!

This "Breast Augmentation & Implants" section, the section description "Are you considering having breast augmentation ..." In my view can be removed, because the links themselves are quite explanatory

Same for the Lasik Eye Surgery section, that title explains that Lasik is a surgical precedure, the link "Learn about Lasik" is naturally where I would click if I want to know what is Lasik. Since the title and links are already good guides, the descriptive text becomes restatements.

I think overall your text is a bit too wordy. Check out J Nielson's alertbox. (Jakob
Nielsen's Alertbox, Be Succinct! (Writing for the Web)

Cnet.com is a good example of page information design. I believe they went through a few redesign already, I think its pretty cool ...

Check out/ reread another article by J Nielson (Reading on the Web)

Lastly I think your site looks pretty good. I hope my comments were helpful, hope I didn't offend . All da best!

Thanks bambam for taking the time to look at the site and give me your feedback. I like your suggestions. Um, also I didn't realize that the colors were causing some problems. I see what you mean though. I'll make sure we don't repeat these mistakes in our redesign, I think I may also make some temporary changes to help improve these spots. Yeah, the site purpose under the logo is way to hard to read! I agree about the redundant copy too. Thanks!

I've gone ahead and implemented some of the graphical and focus related changes you suggested. Take a look at the site again, and let me know what you think.

Thanks.

I am glad you found my comments helpful, I feel warm and fuzzy inside thanks!

One additional note is that you could swap the "Over 160,000 Doctors, Dentists, and Chiropractors" with Locate and contact doctors ..."

"Over 160,000" is a strong value proposition, its let people know what to expect. So its like:

Over 160,000 Doctors, Dentists, and Chiropractors
Locate and contact doctors in your area

vs

Locate and contact doctors in your area
Over 160,000 Doctors, Dentists, and Chiropractors

Hope that was helpful, cheers!
