honestly I think you went too far with the lightbox theme, its 2004 we've seen em all, sorry to be harsh, but as far as flash presentations go, there are plenty of craaAAaazy stuff out there. Yours seem tame by comparison and doesn't win you any marks for flash skills, at least on here.

www.corbis.com is a very nice example, because they showcase the photos and not flash.

I would sugest you let your photos be the main attraction on this section and have flash play the supportive role instead.

just my 2 cents

Your photos are SUPER!! btw

I disagree, although I probably wouldn't go back to that site, its has a brillient use of colours and layout, and the lightbox theme, no matter how old, is definatly the better between his (or hers) and the example.

Thanks for the support CJX, I apologise to anyone who thinks my flash work is old hat, I am still learning (thats what I come here for) I was quite pleased with the result as it clearly showed off my pictures with an added twist to the bog standard set of thumbnails, the site is not generally aimed at people browsing, it's designed for potential clients to see some of the work I have produced and the flash it there to just brighten things up a little. Did you see the other flash I have made, for example the intro to the Grafic House web design page (the dancing house) or the flash version of that site, what are your opinions on those ??

Hello ir8, didn't mean to offend you, I DID see the intro animation, liked it, but thought it was a bit too long. honestly, I think your work is good, but you could go further still. However great your intro animation is, that doesn't mean your lighbox interface is automatically great.

I understand it can be annoying to hear harsh criticism right after you completed a project, and from some stranger with no credibility. But you should know you can't please everyone, and the moment you posted here or let it out into the world, expect criticism.

Yes you should be proud of your flash skills, you are multi-talented, indeed great photos and nice flash animations. (why do I care ... don't know ... forum community spirit? trying to be nice ... who cares ...)

I'm just saying the flash gets in the way (on the lightbox) It seems you are trying to show off your flash skill together with your Photo skills. Don't get me wrong I like flash, preloading images is fantastic, nothing worng with showcasing your talent. Yes, you one upped on the 'bog standard of thumbnails' but not by that much, and depending on who you ask, maybe not at all ... Here are some additional points for your consideration ...

For example, all the negatives are placed on a grid, too well aligned, doesn't seem like a 'real' lightbox, my reason for not liking it initially also the lightbox cold flicker on automatically after everything is loaded. And why are they Negatives btw? Shouldn't they be Slides instead?

the lightbox seem too small in one corner of the page to be important. the flash BG color and the HTML bg color doesn't match exactly, so it does seem that they are seperated into their own portions instead of one large stage.

All the best man

Ok I have made a few changes and thanks for the pointers, it does look better now. the negatives are now wonky and the flash goes straight into the light coming on automatically.
as for the comment about negs or slides, they could be unmounted slides if you want, mounted slides tend to be in white or cream plastic frames which would not emphasise the images as well, the 'neg' colour is a pretty neutral tone that separates the image from the rest of the scene.
