Please tell me how to improve this design

I'm slowly creating a new homepage for my website.

    Here is my latest draft:
markgoodwinpianos.co.uk/newtest/4.htm (this forum blocked my url on my first attempt so I had to remove the www)

It is to replace my old fashioned current homepage here
    markgoodwinpianos.co.uk

Please let me know what areas look rubbish so that I can work on them.

    My feelings:
    - Header is rubbish
    - I may put smiling faces of our 3 staff members in the header
    - H2 subheadings need some styling. But what kind?
    - More splashes of subtle color here and there could help

As of yesterday it was validating with no errors.

    Many thanks for any feedback.

I think you must have worked on it a lot the last few weeks because the subheaders have styling now, I don't see any faces to put smiles on and there's plenty of color.

I would, however, spruce up the header a bit.

I like that you keep a live inventory, most small businesses don't and it's incredibly useful to the user browsing the site.

Your website looks like a blog. I think you should redesign your website and make it user friendly. Arrange each element and put it at right place. Create menu and add pages like contact, videos, categories, make special side bar for testimonials.
As per my view you should hire professional web designer to work for you.

Looking much better than it did a few days ago. I'd make your main (left) column a bit wider though - hurts my brain to look at two columns so close in size. Also - you might want to make your contact info a bit more noticeable by maybe adding a green background to the contact info area, or moving it to where it says "Yamaha pianos for sale at sensible prices - Manchester and London", or both.

I would center the entire page. On large screens it looks aligned to the left.
Also, I would differentiate the posts from one another by background color categorization (green for financial stuff, etc...)
But make sure to use light, subtle colors.

    Goodluck!

    Hi esupergood,

The thing I like most about your website is the logo.

The FAQ are not working are you aware of that?

I would vertical align middle everything.

All generalizations are false, including this one. Free hosting

    Hi esupergood,
I like the boxes but really want to see this page in the middle.
I think that you should make the contact text right below the logo bigger and more noticeable. Good luck

I would like to add, since you are into music and good feeling. Make use of other colors, aside from white, like blue that signifies the message of your site. as a user, i have observed that the sute lacks the 'mood', 'tone and even melody.' Also, observe minimalism, balance and harmony.

I know you knew what i meant. Thanks!
