pls review personal web site http://www.magikwebs.co.uk/john/

Hiya, I've just been mucking about a bit with my own website, just for fun and wondered what you thought about it. Only maybe 20% of the pages are there yet but it's enought to give you a good idea of what it's going to be like.

I'm trying for something, blogish, varied, fun and just interesting really, how am I doing?

Oh... the URL is http://www.magikwebs.co.uk/john/

Thanks,

John.

Content is pretty good, but IMHO, the color scheme leaves much to be desired. I would drop the green text and go with white (more like Ars Technica), and maybe use light grey instead of the blue, but really the green is the problem (at least in conjunction with the other colors you've selected).
However, the white on black color scheme can be hard to read compared to black on white, so you'll have to decide if your audience will care about that.

Indeed, I agree about the color scheme. I like the way you layed it out and everything, though.

I suggest you make the green text white, as he said, and make the blue text less sky-blue. Make it a bit less bright (on HSL, lower the S).

Also, I'd say find a nice picture bg for the site and use a lighter color of the same picture for the divided off parts.
An example of what I mean: http://guconsole.netfirms.com/
Note: I made this site a while ago and the project has been discontinued since.
Actually, I don't much like the way I made that site. But I do like the different colors for the bg. You could try that if you wanted and see how it looks.

well, thanks for the input, it seems everyone is agreed that the content is better than the colour scheme. I'll have to try a couple of different style sheets and see what works best.

Thanks for feedback.

Full marks for ditching HTML tables and using CSS for presentation. Why don't you try for an XHTML doctype? Agree with the others - that black BG is not attractive.
