OMG . . . I can't believe I submitted a request without including the URL, which is:

http://insulinquestions.netfirms.com

(If you read what the site is about you'll understand why I'm brain-dead.)

Please be as brutal as you wish as I need to get this right.

Also . . .

Another big question . . .

I submitted the site to a meta tag analyser and it says I have no title, no meta tags, etc.

What have I done wrong???

Thanks in advance for any help on this . . . I just need to get it out to as many people as possible but I need it to be easily readable, etc.

RebeccaJ
Faith in Humanity but frustrated to the max

PS
I'm so glad that this website is here as I don't know where I would turn to for help.

Part of it is due to the ads by the free hosting but you should be aware of that. You have meat and tilte tags inside the body and everything is out of place.

Have another look at the above code.

Good luck

Further to PM, here are the additional comments.

Hi

I am sorry to hear about the loss and wish you good luck.

Points to consider for design:
First of all, I shall say that these are my personal views. Designers can design whichever they desire and most get rather personal about their designs as I did myself many years ago.

Flash:
I normally have flash and JavaScript disabled. There are many reasons for it, most important being security which is not the subject of this thread. Another one is the speed. I have been on sites where the designer has put a 2+mb flash as intro and you have wait until it loads. On a slow connection, forget about it.

On the other hand Flash can add extra flavour to the site. My view is to use it as the flavour and not the main course. In other words, have the Flash intro but provide an alternative for people whose browsers do not support Flash or JavaScript.

Entrance to your site is accessed via a Flash only.

To be honest, aside for the site that are about flash [even among them, the good one always have alternative navigation] the only place I have seen Flash used most effectively is in the logo headers where a site has a logo header as image and as Flash, so if you have Flash enabled, you see the Header and if you don't site still functions perfectly and you see an image based logo/header.
Example: http://www.newscorp.com/index2.html

AFA flash site, I have seen some good ones that demonstrate full potential of Flash and it is like navigating in a Sci-Fi movie but then that site was a CV for a Flash designer.
Example: http://www.3ringstudios.com/penetrationtest/
http://www.nukyisalients.com/NS_flashSite.htm

Try Google with "best Flash design" and check out the sites.

HTML:
Almost all free hosts insert some sort of adds into the site. You have to be aware of this as it would mess up the HTML.

Example:
Looking at your site:
Code:
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<BODY bgcolor="#000000"><!-- begin banner code -->

<table bgcolor="#000000" align="center" border="0" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="0" width="728">

...
...
...
</td>
</tr>
</table>

<!-- end banner code -->

This is where the Netfirms embedded its ads.

Then after that you have
Code:
<TITLE>Insulin Questions</TITLE>
<META NAME="Keywords" CONTENT="" ....
...
<!-- META Tags generated by http://submitexpress.com/metatag.html --></HEAD>

TITLE and META should appear after the HEAD and before BODY. It is not your fault as that is the way Netfirms insert content but you should be aware of it and design based on that awareness.

The BODY tag also is out of place. Browsers still do display the page even with errors but you can get unexpected results.

I hope that helps.

Good luck

Insulin Questions

Thanks for the post . . .

I've sent an email to Netfirms and will await their reply before jumping in and making changes as I'll be disabling the flash and trying to change the whole . . . "site."

Thanks for your posts and direction . . . don't know what I'd do without your imput.

Thanks
Rebecca J
