Rules For Posting

I think we are going to have to make some rules for posting in this section so that is why I am starting this thread. What I will do (and maybe one of the mods in here will take over

) is let people post their ideas and thoughts, a regular old discussion. Once we have done that I will make a post with just that informaiton and make it sticky and make it so no one else can post to it.

I think we should suggest that the url of the site be in the subject making it easier to know what site is which. If all the subjects say review my site or something generic like that it will make it hard to find threads again.

Yeah. I think that the thread titles should be just the domain:

http://forums.devshed.com

and then in the post, you say what the site is and what its about to give people an idea of what it should do:

The Dev Shed Forums are a place for developers to discuss many topics based around general web development and computers.

I concur re; the thread titles.

Regarding the content of the messages, I think it would be helpful if users would focus in on what they would like reviewed.

For instance, if they are hoping to get the design critiqued, some aspect of the site's functionality reviewed, their copy read, etc - to ask users to make it clear what they would like reviewed.

Otherwise, it can be easy to get lost in the minutiae of analyzing every aspect of a site (unless, of course, they'd like every aspect of the site reviewed

).

Additionally, I think it would be helpful for users to state what the intention or goal of their site is, in order to give analysts an idea of how to approach their review.

Many replies to requests for reviews start with "you didn't close your <blah> tag, you have an extra <head>" etc.

It might be worth putting a link to http://validator.w3.org/ in the sticky too remind/alert people of its existence.

Its good. Go ahead and post it.

However, I have a question - if you close the thread, can you/I reopen it if the content needs to be modified (for instance, addition of another web-based resource for pre-site checking), or is it locked for good? I don't recall if vB allows Mods to access closed threads, or only Admins.
