Cool http://www.lisa-jill.com/

I'd love to hear what people think about my site.. it's a personal site but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

just as a side note there are some missing background images - the links list on the left, each of the news boxes should have background images.. it works in IE but not in moz/opera (pc) and i've been wrestling with it when i have the energy

thanks in advance =)

The first page is pretty long. It might work a bit better if you removed/shrank the unicorn in the right corner, so the center column could be wider, and shorten the scrolling. Not bad though.

the unicorn is a background image; it doesn't affect the width - i have that set to 80% because any bigger causes a horizontal scrollbar even at a very high resolution.... perhaps i could fix that, or maybe move the unicorn elsewhere, i know there's a lot of blackspace and that's been one of the things bugging me hehe =)

i fixed the background images not showing in opera/moz - i had to get rid of the background-attachment tag

the reason it scrolls so long is because i'm talkative and i have 7 days showing - do you think i should maybe only show 2-3 days of postings to lessen the scroll?

[EDIT] Being rather new at this I made a mistake.. the 70% width I had was a div that was inside another div.. i had thought it was 70% of the page but it was of the parent div

so, i played around with the margin's and paddings of the parent div and expanded the width of the items div, and now theres a lot less black space and i think, overall, it looks a lot better

thanks for the inspiriation to get looking at that; i had kind of given up on it but only just realized what i was doing wrong!

it also resizes *much* better now, for smaller and larger resolutions - in higher resolutions the page looked downright silly cos of all the empty space, but i think its much better now =)

Re-sizing the column makes it better. I do think maybe 3-4 days of posts would be better for the front page though, and just have a link at the bottom to continue to more posts. Other than that, its one of the better personal web sites I've seen.

karsh,

let me ask you - that menu at the top, should i replicate it at the bottom? it also has the link to every post ever made (just the titles, not the entire text, that'd be like 500 pagedowns!)

also the archive calender at the top lets people browse through, but yea i'm thinking that maybe that menu at the bottom would be easier for navigation purposes for the reader, rather than click then a link, you could just choose to go straight to the link....

thank you so much for your reviews and help!

It would be good to have the menu at top and bottom. As far as the menu goes, it might look better if it were a whole menu bar across the full width of the page, rather than the current group of links in the middle. Put horizontal rules above and below, so that the menu stands out as such, and make the text take up the whole width.

hrm, i'll play with spreading out the top navigation a bit tonight... i have an idea of how to do it but will play with it on the test site

i'm a bit more wary of doing it on the bottom; i've had some major problems with the footer (my middle column loves to overwrite it when it gets longer, especially on other pages) that I've tried to tackle but just get too annoyed

i'll have a looksee when i get home, thank you for the suggestions!

karsh,

thank you so much for your suggestions; i modified the topmenu, it was already in its own div for text formatting so rather than adding horizontal dividers I just colored the borders... i have to say it looks 100x better, thank you =)

I added it to the bottom too, but when I tried to put it in the footer div it ended up being an utter mess, so now its kinda hacked into the rightcolumn's text... its a stopgap until I can learn how to add a footer and make it work right...

your input has been invaluable, thank you so much =)

just a quick suggestion, i would center your site and you pick just to make it look a little neater. and i would add another navagational bar at the bottom of the page as well as the top. other then that its a good looking site.

The width of the picture should match the width of the content table.
