Nice layout.

Though your code wasn't that good.
Don't forget your html while using css.
I would suggest that you run it through w3.org's validator

Some of the problems I noted. Inline elements like span containing blocklevel elements.
Fieldset used without any forms. fieldset is to group form-elements.
Lots of h1-elements, usually one should just use one within a document.
I would also suggest that you use a unorderd list for the menu.
you can control the layout with css.http://www.alistapart.com/articles/taminglists/

I like the layout. It's visually appealing and the variation in the header quotes/pics will keep people looking at it (I've found people tend to ignore headers that appear static after the first time).

A few things you can do:
Optimize your images-60kb is a lot for a dial-up user to d/l (yes we still exist . Also, I noticed they were .gif format. Since these are full color photos you might get a smaller filesize in a jpeg format.

Validate your markup. As Akh stated, there are a few errors. Another validator to try is http://www.htmlhelp.com/tools/validator/-you can test your entire site with it.

Test your site for accessibility. http://www.hisoftware.com/accmonitorsitetest/

Test your site's speed at www.websiteoptimization.com

If you use FireFox, look at their web developer's extentions- web developer & html validator w/ tidy are fantastic add-ons and when you view your source the validator gives you some immediate tips to clean up your markup.
