waddaya think? www.TheNoiseReport.com

Hi guys, my expertise is more in the content production side of the site than the webmastering side, but right now I'm taking care of that myself...so I'd be interested to hear what you think of the site. It's based on phpnuke...

Thanks

Let me see... it's invalid, it uses tables for layout, the header image doesn't line up, and it uses iframes despite the implication that you can manage php includes.

As for the design I like it, especialy the sidebars, you have all good ideas, it's just that you haven't really applied them correctly.

I dont like the green cylinder thing you got going for the sidebars. Maybe try and flatten them out a bit as the rest of the site is more 2D than 3D.

Its a good design (graphically), coding wise it looks a bit messy.

Yes - under the bonnet looks a bit ugly but the main thing is it works and doesn't break (tested on MAC & PC - even works on IE5! but then it is tables). Not a fan of black backgrounds but that's just me. Green & black are a great colour combo. The file size is on the large size. Homepage clocks in at 82.5KB of which 64.5KB are graphics. Most are 1-2KB so well done optimisation-wise there. Folks on 56K dialup modems are waiting 16 seconds - that's testing their patience somewhat. There's possibly too much happening on the homepage and you could do some organisation or spring clean the way you present info to users? Try & get the file size down to 40K. Otherwise - good work.

Thanks for the comenst guys. I tried running the site through http://validator.w3.org, as suggested by the welcome message to this forum...what a mess!!! To my defense, i didn't code it myself, it uses phpnuke, and it was all setup by a friend of mine cuz I didn't have time to do everything myself. I'm still surprised by the number of problem on it though.
I agree with you skyrocket on the black bg. I'm not 100% happy with that. It all just kinda happenned that way based on the site's logo. I've been thinking of recoding the whole damned thing from scratch to make it nice and clean, and going with a lighter colour scheme, like beige and white...
again, thanx for your comments.
