Is there anyway I can improve the visuals without using images? (This is a work in progress. Each page will contain a lot of images, so site design much remain as small as possible.)

Well you could use some images, the only one I can see is a trackermigigy, which an image shouldn't be nessersary for anyway.
Urm.. change the thickness of the headers perhaps. |

I'm running Firefox. I can tell that it's 1px by 1px, I noticed it when I thought that you having two full stops at the end of a sentence was a bit wierd.
