What is a good Website and Server Monitoring Service?
Hi,
Hoping I am in the right category...
I am working for the promotion and indexing of a new Server and Website monitoring service (turbomonitor.com).
The service is not yet operative but will be soon (for the moment there is only a form on the website to subscribe as a beta tester).
Before the launch, I would like to ask the related professionals (system administrators, no?) what they are expecting from a monitoring service and if our service could fill with this.
We think our main strengths are:
- Speed: Failures or stops in the system are immediately detected and we send an automatic IP call, or/and SMS or /and email in 5 seconds.
- Cross country checking: We check if systems are working from many countries in the world
- Uptime and Downtime reports
- No server installation. Working in 1 min! It's an online remote service. You just enter your IPs or domains and that's it.
- The price will probably also be very competitive and there will be a free trial. At the begining it will be totally free.
Thank you for your feed back, critics and suggestions. Anyone interested can fill the form on the site to be a free beta tester when the service will be on.

Moved from Security/Cryptography forum.
Not sure if this is the right destination, but it was the closest match I could make.

what is a good website and server monitoring service?
Good website and server monitoring service that will provide reliable and secure web hosting services. Services should well suit to your business needs. There are many web hosting services available with the service provider. But choose any one taking business requirements in mind. I am satisfied with the web hosting solutions that are provided by the IWIHosting. You can also try these services.

I currently use a combination of hosted and desktop monitoring programs. Definitely monitor in short intevals and immediate notificcation is a plus.

I use a free one (cant remember what it is called now) but for me the most important is a service that tells me quickly if my site is down. That way I can call my hosting provider, or at the least I can make sure I am aware of it next time I pay the bill!
A 15-30 minute ping frequency works for my sites. Too often and it wastes my bandwidth. Too little and I will miss some downtimes.
Very important that it generates an email alert, or even better an SMS one. I would expect to have to pay for SMS alerts but wouldnt mind if it was less than 20cents / 20 pence per downtime alert.

We use Servers Alive. A small app that sits on a PC which will monitor all sorts of things - HTTP request to a page and check it contains "XXX" but also Ping an IP, check SQL DB is "up", Diskspace on Server-X > XXX GB etc.
Free for up to 10 things being monitored(I think).
Can Page / EMail etc alerts, Log when Up/Down, sound audible (.WAV) alarm and a range of other things.
It only checks my web site from MY machine, so obviously not as a good as a service that is pinging my site from multiple Carriers / Countries.
FWIW we have a specific page on all our sites which is the target of this "Is site up?" request. This page makes a database call, and the test is that some specific database text is included on the page - so a test of both the web services running, and the DB "healthy". Also, we exclude access to that specific page from all our site-stats.
It is configured to test our sites every minute.
