www.baconinc.co.za
I am designing a site for a law firm in South Africa. I have tried to add some colour as the content is quite boring to say the least. I am looking for code and layout advice, plus anything else that comes to mind. I am also a bit worried about the load times. Not all the links work.

Not sure why you've chosen an HTML transitional doctype when looks like you could have gone with XHTML transitional at least. The thin photo strip running down the far right side is offputting - I am sure I'm not the only one going "why?!". The Brian Bacon & Assoc logo looks bitmapped to me. Like the purple/white icons but reckon they could do with a bit of 3D modelling to lift them off the page slightly. Hard to spot those purple links. Needs some padding around the text content.

Afrikaans, wow.
First and foremost, please title your pages. You're using PHP, so it won't be too hard to do I think. I like the layout as a whole of the site. It seems very professional and is not too flashy or over-the-top, which is what I assume a bunch of patent lawyers would want. I like the colors you've used as well. The purple navigation at the top doesn't stand out to you at first, but you do see it through closer inspection. I think this is mainly because your background color doesn't change so it seems like just part of the header. You could try changing it there, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary. As mentioned before, your logo looks very grainy. It's not transparent, so take it back into Photoshop and you should be able to make it look quite a bit better. Also, I don't think the right-side background stretch effect is really necessary. It takes away from the flow of the page, I think, and there's really no reason for it being there. Also, the white square at the bottom seems kind of strange. Why not just have a border there? Hope that helps. |

bacon inc. hehe
(i think they'll be getting a lot of angry visitors wondering where all the bacon is)the image on the left is very lossy, to the extent that it detracts from the site. i agree about the need for titles , title switch is very simple using php and that the image strip on the right is distracting.i think the content could do with a bit more padding around it. other than those few minor points, the site is looking pretty solid |

i agree about the links. i'd make the images a little smaller, and set them on a lower level than the logo. also, anti-alias the logo, bitmaps and pixelated fonts in a logo are not very professional looking.
I like the overall feel of the site, great colors, and a very proffesional, yet relaxing theme |

Thanks for the comments. I have removed the strip on the right and the logo has been anti aliased. I am working on the other comments.
Any more ideas would be welcome. Thanks again |
