I would say get rid of the splash/welcome screen. They have little purpose and I find them to be more of a distraction.
Other than that, my only other complaint would be the hover style of the menu. It's hard to read and the text seems to jump around.

Also...if you don't get rid of the splash welcome screen...it's not centered on firefox. You probably want to fix that.

Two things:
The first is that JPG is a bad format for low color images. http://www.dieingbreed.com/1tree.jpg is 80K - I'd bet that in this case PNG or GIF would be a better choice. And the huge one - do not let the browser resize the image. For example, http://www.dieingbreed.com/1tree.htm contains two pictures, probably from your digital camera, that add up to over a megabyte of images(!) That'll kill both your bandwidth and the desire of anybody on anything but a T3 to want to visit you. Overall I like the color and layout though.
