www.dsauto.co.uk

Hello this is my very first post here so be kind.

I have built my very first web site www.dsauto.co.uk using MS FP now I know that it is not the best tool for developing web design but I think it has got my site up and running and tells everyone about what we do.

I have built this site after studying a 9 hour course with Learn Direct.

There are a few problems with the navigation of the site, which when I look in my FP programme it is ok but when live on the web it does not work as it should, and I don't know why!

I have listed my site with a many free hosting company's as possible and I think I have a Page rating with Google of 2 which from what I understand is not a good rating, am I right in thinking that to increase it I need to get other company's to link to my site?

Now this site was built by myself back in October 2004(and I do update it as often as I can maybe 3-4 times a week, again I was lead to understand that this would help with ratings) after purchasing the name in May 2004 ready for the site to be live for June when we move into our new workshop, I had agreed to pay someone to build me a flash site that looked really good that would make us noticed, well it did not happen so I figured the only was to get the site running was a DIY job, I have no experience or did not understand any html, so I do feel pretty proude of my acheivement, now having said that there is still loads of room for improvement and I WANT a really good site.

The current site is only on as a temp measure it is getting hits and we do get quite a bit of work from it.

Any comments to how I can improve it would be really appreciated.

I have now a Visual Studio package which eventually I would like to have a new site built from that, only problem there is I currently do not know how to use it, so this is an on going project.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and as I said any help would be appreciated, but please can you make it easy for a beginner to understand.

hi,I liked the page layouts in the site and the colours, although there are a few things i would consider doing. I wasn't immediately sure where to go when i went to the home page, could do with an enter here or something. I personally would also be tempted to put 'vehicle electrical system fault diagnosis'etc more promenantly to make sure people can see quickly what the site is about as it is in quite small writing at present. I would probably center the images at the bottom as well to equalise the page. Good job though.

There was a link bar on the left hand side before I changed a few things today, now I seem to have lost it!! there is currently 16 pages to the site so I guess you only saw the first page

Thanks for the reply I am trying to figure out how to put the navigation bar back

Not bad result for your 9 hours course. I remember what my first sites used to look like, but anyway.

First problem I can see is that your menu on the left uses a programming language called Java (which isn't the same as JavaScript). Many people don't have Java installed on their computers, so they would see no menu at all.

The menu may also do with some re-ordering:
1. Home
2. News
3. Services
4. De-Limiting
5. Vehicle Security
6. Lexus
7. Honda
8. Gallery
9. Feedback
10. Links
11. News

(side note - better hurry typing, looks like we're gonna have a power cut!)

Other than that, the rest just takes time and trying things out. Things like text and CSS. A good resource is www.w3schools.com which can help with basics.

P.S. That Nissan Pulsar looks great, what's the BHP on that then? Is it just decal or has it rallied? Seen some advertised as beefed up to 800+ BHP.

My site for our car:
http://80.177.17.55/avanzato/links.php

Not always online 100% of the time though as it's hosted locally, see earlier about power cut!

Hi there!

Maria referred me to the site, i was the "creator/owner" of the Pulsar GTi-R

I don't own it any more but had some great fun with it!

It was running 300bhp, obviously 4 x 4 etc, the paint work was carried out buy a guy in Bournemouth.

I run www.anything-cars.com, there's some more pics there if you're interested!
