www.toptiertemplates.com
Hi. I'm building a web template site and of course you want a decent page for your own site in that case. So it would be awesome if some of you guys could let me know what you think of the layout that is currently there.
http://www.toptiertemplates.com and if anyone could let me know how to turn html on, that would be great. By the way, I'm going to add some sound to the flash. Negative comments are welcome as well. Last edited by edwinbrains : August 17th, 2004 at 02:48 AM. |

the design is nice, although a little pedestrian. the continual flickering of the of the top banner is quite distracting but that might just be me.
you seem to have changed the button animation for 'techincal support' in your top menu bar. the yellow submit button for the login, could do with 'submit' or 'go' even a little graphic, it needs something. I'm not sure what you mean by Quote:
but i'll try and give you a few pointers, you're using the mime type "text/html2"? should it not be "text/html"? tables are for displaying data, not for laying out a page. you're using css, but only a very small amount of it, there is plenty more that should really be styled using css. in summary, design good, code bad. |

The page looks great - classy stuff from a design POV. Nice use of Flash, good colour scheme all very complimentary and clean looking. I note that the layout has been achieved with old HTML tables and spacer gifs but I won't go there as it might start a holy war. Some points I could raise...the photo on the top banner of the keyboard is back to front. You have obviously flipped the graphic in Photoshop and the writing is now the wrong way round. Not sure about the dotty background you've used for the body - looks a bit naff and distracts the eye from the main page content if you ask me. Maybe tone it down a bit. Under the username + login you have a yellow button with no title or name. Otherwise - good stuff.

I agree with Three, design good, code bad. I still dont have the faintest idea of what you mean by 'turn html on'.
I'd say that as a priority you should put in a doctype declaration and character encoding declaration then go over the validation results and try fixing it bit by bit. |

TinyText(tm) is horrible, come on.
"Your account, Email, Preferences" is way too small and unreadable as well. Last edited by edwinbrains : August 17th, 2004 at 01:19 PM. |

Nice. But the side areas are a bit too big. And the buttons up top take to long to change color. Can't tell if you're hovering or not for a sec or two. :P

thanks
thanks for the info guys, and ya, i'll admit that some of the html needs some working. I'm going to get to that a little later. As far as turning the html on, I was just talking about on these posts. I have now figured out, however, that I can just use visual basic code to place links such as http://www.toptiertemplates.com

You're site is ok, but it takes a long time to load even using broadband..
Also, don't create empty space (like those blank button below the screen) if you won't use it now. |
