YoungAmericanVoters.com

My site, www.YoungAmericanVoters.com, is up and running in development. I also designed some bar graphs (http://www.YoungAmericanVoters.com/dev/bars.html) to use on the main page.

There's also another version of that site, slightly updated, at:
http://www.YoungAmericanVoters.com/dev2/

The *big* change comes with this version (http://www.YoungAmericanVoters.com/dev3)... it's just a huge image atm, but imo it's the best design of the 3. Do you guys agree? Also, if you do, what do you think the best way of turning it into HTML would be? It's kind of hard since there is a lot of transparency going on.. I was thinking about making the top 1/2 of the page almost completely out of sliced and spliced up images, and the bottom out of tables/images. Any suggestions?

you need to think about reducing the size of all your images as they reach 400kbytes, some people still view the net on 56k. If you use photoshop you can use the File-Save For Web i think the option is. Make it clear what you are trying to influence. is it Pro Bush or Anti Bush it is hard to tell from the front Page.

I'm too lazy to check the file sizes, but if they are big, you really need to cut them down in size. Add all the file sizes together for your index page, then figure out how long it would take to load at 48kps. (about the max a 56K modem can realistically do)

The site doesn't promote one party over another. It only promotes informed voting by teens. Unless I'm mistaken.

The images are a good start. Drop the red background. Other than that keep at it!

I would have to agree with dropping the red background. It is too harsh for my taste.

Oops, didn't wait long enough for the American Flag background to come up. That's a nice touch, but the size (277K) is way too large.

is it a problem that the content of each page is not visible until one scrolls down?

is there a better way to lay out this page? possibly with one "home page" with the huge text in the center (which changes as you mouseover the side links) and subsequent pages with just a simple linkbar on the side and content on the right side of the page?

yea i m gonna say the same thing...general consensus on the red bg has to go...the red bg and the lime text is killer (in a not so good way)

also have to agree that the bgimage needs to size down and maybe a bit more opaque so that the text over top can be easily read.

anyway aside from that...i know you said to ignore the first post but i kinda like the dev3 version the best...probably because as i just mentioned, it is the easiest to read.

i dont know about the "other pages having to scroll down" because i couldnt view any other pages..

and as for the layout...i think you are ok, wouldnt go the frame route but i think the huge text and flashy colors need to go if you want your audience (which seems to be stiff political types) to take you serisouly

best of luck and rock on!!
