    Ideas for website, Information

Hey , I don't know where else to put this so here it goes.

www.gameyin.com (ignore the big vertical nav bar. Still working on it. YES I know there's a frog there.)

Anybody have suggestions as to what JavaScript I could put in place there? On the entire portion of the site (What's finished anyway.

Any suggestions are worthwhile to me. I've practice my CSS/XHTML/PHP/MySQL. I realized I haven't done anything with Javascript. So any articles I could read relating to the suggestions you place are fine with me. BTW, vbrtrm (I think that's how you spell it) , I saw you mention obtrusive JavaScript. Is that the onmouseover onclick, blah blah? Explain please.

Seems a bit off-topic, I'd recommend moving to maybe Web Site Critiques, ask a mod.

As per learning (anything), I have found that the best way for me to learn any new technology is to make up a project and do it. What project should you make up? Beats me, find something that interests you and do it. Go back through posts here which have long threads read through them and try to make up your own solutions.

You may think that you have a lot of experience with CSS/XHTML/PHP/MySQL, you don't. I'm not trying to be mean, just truthful; I'm sure you haven't programmed to the same level that I have... certainly not to the same level that hard-core PHP/MySQL developers have. Think about this, I have over ten years of experience doing strictly web development work, ten years ago, you were 6 or 7. Have you ever programmed for 6 hours straight, how about 12, how about 24+? (rhetorical question, I don't really care)

Find an open source project and contribute to it. Make your own open source project. Expand upon someone else's work.

Also, remember there is a lot more out there then web development. If you decide to go to college try out a bunch of stuff. Note I said "decide", I didn't go to college, though I have a good job and know a bunch of stuff. If you do go, take a range of courses, figure out what you like doing and do that, don't just say, "I'm interested in computers, I'm going to do Computer Science." A very smart friend of mine always says, "Computers have as much to do with Comp/Sci as telescopes have to do with Astronomy."

Read this thread, which I replied to, today:

Oh ... yeah, move out of Maryland

If a moderator sees this then they can. Surprised your not based on your skill
As per learning (anything), I have found that the best way for me to learn any new technology is to make up a project and do it. What project should you make up? Beats me, find something that interests you and do it.
Well, I've thought about that and I can't come up with anything. That's why I'm asking, based on my website, what they think I could add.

Go back through posts here which have long threads read through them and try to make up your own solutions.
Don't have that much time. If any members here would post a few threads that they think have good ideas, I'll take them into consideration
    You may think that you have a lot of experience with CSS/XHTML/PHP/MySQL, you don't. I'm not trying to be mean, just truthful;
Keep in mind, I'm only 11. I know I don't have much experience. I must have misworded my statement. As per the website, I'm tired of doing the HTML/CSS/PHP/MySQL stuff. I want to move onto something else.

I'm sure you haven't programmed to the same level that I have... certainly not to the same level that hard-core PHP/MySQL developers have.
I've done some bad-butt stuff with websites. Not surely to the extent pros do, but I hope to reach that level within me going to high-school.

I have about 2 years, give or take. The longest I've done coding stuff, is about 7 hours. Took 2 breaks during that. (Heard your supposed to since it can be hurtful to you... )

Find an open source project and contribute to it. Make your own open source project. Expand upon someone else's work.
I'd rather not. I currently have to make a website for this kid in my boy scouts. He's going to Russia and he needs a website (I will be working alongside a professional on this one.) This will help raising funds. Also, along with the Boy Scouts, the current webmaster is retiring so my dad told me about it and he said I should sign up. So I am doing that too. THEN my current website I'm still working on.

Also, remember there is a lot more out there then web development. If you decide to go to college try out a bunch of stuff. Note I said "decide", I didn't go to college, though I have a good job and know a bunch of stuff. If you do go, take a range of courses.
Really? I'm going to go to college. Surprised you didn't because your smart. I'm probably gonna do something regarding the languages I know

Read this thread, which I replied to, today:

Don't know much about JavaScript. Couldn't answer most. Maybe I could answer 5. Apart from that no.

Oh ... yeah, move out of Maryland
I like Maryland. A lot of things spaced out but oh well. WHEW MY HANDS ARE TIRED . Time to take a break.

    Edit: LOL Vbrtrmn.

Not really interested in moderating, so I never asked to.
Well, I've thought about that and I can't come up with anything. That's why I'm asking, based on my website, what they think I could add.
Your site doesn't have anything right now, maybe you could write up some basic tutorials for each of the sections. Do the write-ups, based on your experiences. Maybe have a donations section for your Boy Scouts stuff.
Don't have that much time. If any members here would post a few threads that they think have good ideas, I'll take them into consideration
You're probably not going to get an entire site done in a day... but honestly, all you have is time.
Keep in mind, I'm only 11. I know I don't have much experience. I must have misworded my statement. As per the website, I'm tired of doing the HTML/CSS/PHP/MySQL stuff. I want to move onto something else.
You're profile says you were born in 1991, 2008-1991 = 17 (or 16 if you were born later in the year). If you're tired of doing HTML/CSS/PHP/MySQL then why bother with web development at all. JavaScript is STRONGLY tied to HTML and CSS, if you're not interested in them, don't muck around with JavaScript.

Then change it and stop the discussing.

Telescopes have a LOT to do with astronomy.
And glasses has a lot to do with language, right?

Your site isn't to bad. The colors are harsh on my eyes (and they are inconstant; pick one, blue, green, red, and then stick with it), the design could use a little work, and the tree frog is just plain creepy. The flashing ads on the bottom need to die along with everything else I hate. Your content is too far to the right, and it should go where the creepy frog is placed. Do you want a top menu or left? Pick one. Your site gives me a logical error...

    • Joseph Taylor agrees : Telescopes are a tool for astronomy. Astronomy is about a lot more than telescopes. Computers are a tool for computer science. Computer science is about a lot more than computers.

The telescope allowed for the development of modern Astronomy. A telescope, whether radio or optical, is the primary tool for any Astrological research. Astromony is an observational science and it is observed with... telescopes

Glasses have nothing to do with language.

Read my first post. I'm waiting for my friend to make me a container image, and then some more images. Including the frog. I know it's creepy lol.

Really? I'm reducing the new image of the frog's width. (Not a frog this time. What browser are you viewing? If you mean the forms and stuff, That will be moved left when I get the new image. Yea, I suck with colors.

Maybe an issue you should ask about in the PHP / MySQL
    that the folders overlap...

    arcade/forums/tutorials/

    or

    arcade/arcade

Also, make gameyin.com accessible without necessarily having to
forward to index.php you can change that as the administrator
    but I forget exactly how..

    good luck
