boot partition/hdd switch
I have installed W2000 server on one hdd, and all other needed stuff /sql server/. After that by normal run I have added new hdd and mirror to first disk. Unfortunately I needed to change one of my hdd /because of weird sounds from inside of hdd/. So I stopped mirror, rebooted machine and removed old hdd and added new one. But the server won't boot and I have got blue sceen. After I reconnected old hdd on same IDE channel, I was unable establish mirror again.
I found following> system is running on disk1 /drive letter E: assigned/, SQL is running from C: /disk0/. So that I think is the reason, why is unable to create the mirror. I can move all needed data to one good hdd but I need to change boot option. In disk management I can see: disk0 healthy /system/ disk1 healthy /boot/ Any idea how to switch boot option? First off you need to realize software mirroring DOES NOT MIRROR THE MASTER BOOT RECORD. It only does files not partition info.
To fix this, with only the one formerly mirrored drive in the system, you want to run the W2K install and choose repair. Use the utilities fixmbr and fixboot. See here for more details: http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...8&Product=winxp This is the xp version but its the same as the w2k version. You should also look at this: http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;en-us;Q117131 Best of luck! |

I have tried.
A: 1. Back up 2. Boot to recovery console 3. run fixboot c: /because c: shoul be disk0/ Result: system can't boot /blue screen/ B: 1. Restore backup 2. Boot to recovery console 3. run fixmbr \device\harddisk0 Result: system hangup c: 1. restore backup 2. system running but still cannot establish a mirror Any suggestion? Regards |

You didn't remove the 2nd drive like I suggested did you?
Do so. I have no idea what you are backing up or restoring since you can't boot. Whatever you mean by backup and restore don't do that. You are mudding the waters. Wipe the drive you want to mirror to BEFORE you put it back in the system. It needs to be RAW. Then follow the procedure to get the mbr on it. Then mirror. |
