1) This should work with any hardware configuration. To configure the computers, run Network Setup Wizzard (Start/Programs/Accessories/Communications/Network Setup Wizzard)
2) This is also accomplished through the wizzard as noted above.

Congratulations on deciding to set up a home network. You won't regret it. Good luck.

The main piece of equipment you'll need to get is a router. This will allow you to easily share your broadband internet access for all the computers in your home.

One decision you'll need to make is whether you want a wireless setup or not. A wireless setup will be more expensive but will save you the hassle of running wires between different rooms of your house. If that isn't a problem, by all means run cables. The only other thing you'll need are the network cards themselves, but if your computers don't already have them, they are very cheap and easy to install.

The way the broadband sharing will work is this. You plug the broadband modem into the router. Then, the router takes care of the work of allowing all the computers connected to it to use the connection.

The router also networks the computers. So, you can share files and printers. To share files, you will need to set up File and Print Sharing on each computer. This is a network service. Then, to share files, you can right-click a folder or file and select "Sharing" to set that up.

Again, good luck. Let us know how it turns out and if you have any further questions.

thanks...actually I bought a wireless router and the internet sharing is working between my desktop and laptop using wired cable and wireless lan card.

My problem now is I don't know the step by step setup of LAN, which I can share files from my computers....

My Laptop is win98 and desktop is 2000
thanks

on 98, you rightclick on the folder u want 2 share and set it as shared, and theres options... i dont really remember because i havent used 98 for a few years, and as far as 200 goes, ive never used it, but i think it might be similar to the xp way i described in my 1st post
