Cant copy files from RDC to Local Computer

    Hi
I am able to connect to this machine B using windows remote desktop connection from computer A
I have also enabled Local Resources->Disk Drives in the options
But when I try to copy any file from Remote computer and try to paste in local machine, I get this error
Cannot copy file.txt: windows cannot find '%1!ls!'. Check the spelling and try again, or try searching for the item by clicking the Start button and then clicking Search

Can someone help me as to what to do?
Is there any other way to copy the files?

    Thanks

I just wrote out an explanation of how to enable the copying of files until I realised you had already done that!

Is this only happening with the one file or is it happening with all files ?

It was happening with all the files
I guess its because of the firewall

I got a new computer to work on but the issue was there with one PC and not another on the same server. Guess the other PC is on firewall?

Did you try disabling the firewall on the other machine to see if it made a difference ? What firewall is it running ?

Its too bad this thread went unsolved...I've got the same problem copying and pasting from my brand new servers at Rackspace, and so far, this thread was the only google hit that specifically referenced that %1!ls! weirdness.

If I find more info, I'll post here.

Instead of farting around with remote desktop have you tried good old fashioned FTP?

I don't see how ftp would be any kind of alternative to remote desktop file transfer. Unless there is already a ftp server installed on the remote machine.

I've never used Remote Desktop file transfer myself, but the File transfer feature is the reason I still use PCAnywhere on a couple remote machines, pcaw has a nice built-in transfer. UltraVNC includes a file transfer if you want to try the VNC route, but VNC and Vista don't play well together.

Sorry so long to post again... I found the problem.

The clipboard checkbox under RDC [Local Resources] tab, "Local devices and resources" enables/disables the ability to copy text in and out of an RDC window, but has no bearing on file copies.

The only way I could get file copies to work was to make sure that the [Drives] checkbox was checked. If you are selectively connecting your drives, (e.g. c: is checked but d: and e: are not), then you will not be able to copy to/from the unchecked drives.

This behavior seems consistent with all of the servers I tested. I'm connecting from Vista x64 to Server 2003 (standard).

You may have to select the tick box "Smart Cards" in RDP connection Options
