I have a CD Witer/Reader that can generally copy to blank CD's ok but sometimes if i copy a CD from another machine with a writer in it and then go and try to read it in my writer it cannot see anything there.I have tried different brands of blank CD's but problem still happens. The computer has win xp home installed.

cd read

make sure you have the latest firmware+driver, if any for you cdrw, and also, what burning software do you use, if nero, or roxio, make sure you have all the patches.one other thing, xp has onboard software made by roxio, even if you use ez cd creator disable the on board to use the third party software, go to start ,run, type msconfig, then go to the services tab, remove the check and applly, if you have (disk detector )or (in disk) or some other software that detects disk insertion, it could be the problem causing the slow start up and shut down you posted, the conflict with xp's on board software.
