I read that sometimes a computer hangs when there are a lot things to load in your system tray, and one thing is that when one of the application in the sys tray gone bad, that'll also be the time when a dialog box starts appearing saying you've performed an illegal operation. In my sys tray I have a task scheduler, a volume control, a winzip, and so on and so forth. What i'm trying to say is can I close some of those things without getting any side effects and will it make my pc run faster?

it will make ya pc faster when loading the os.you only want programs there that u use everytime u boot....for example your firewall and antivirus.are u using winzip constantly?if not get rid of it and the rest of non essential programs.also all these programs running that u r not even using r sucking your cpu and memory resources.
you failed to mention what os....win98 type msconfig in run box and go to last tab(startup) win2k download xp`s msconfig.exe(put in wnnt -sys32 folder) xp not sure if it same as win98 |

Deleting some of your startup apps from msconfig wont delete the programs, they just wont automatically start when you boot your pc. To run the apps, just launch them from the Programs menu.
Some programs you want in the tray, like Zone Alarm, Norton, etc. |
