Question “Compaq Recovery CD Creator” button
.... Does anyone know how to reset XP (HOME) on the Presario “Compaq Recovery CD Creator” button? I have the box and it is registered to me but I have NO software with it and I am NOT excited about paying what HP / Compaq wants. The unit is a 1.8 Ghz. AMD Athlon With added memory ¾ Gig. on the mother board, nice machine. Apparently, someone has already or screwed-up the creation of, the one and only set of, recovery disks. Any HELP with this?

I don't think that it can be done. Personally, I would phone Compaq/HP and explain the situation to them.

I just found the strcdc.ini file and renamed the extention .bk like this strcdc.bk and left it there incase I needed to change back. I didn't have HPCD.sys to rename so this is a route That let me recreate. I am still getting burn errors though with a new dvd/cd burner. Slowing down the cd burner more, in properties and I'll see what happens. Some say if you or someone else has recovered before using disks the login messes up, so becareful.
