It really depends upon the age of the modem and if it is compatible with XP's generic drivers, or if there is a newer XP driver for it. I had similar messages when I upgraded to XP over a year ago and my only hardware problem was with my older, slower CD-RW; I bought a new one and everything works fine to this day :-) As far as your question, are you saying that you installed and then uninstalled XP? Or is it currently a dual boot? Are you currently running 98 now?

Unhappy Conexant contd

Well one of the things i did do was to format MY C: DRIVE where win98 was and install xp. The hardware problem i had after the install was with the modem.

The other thing i did was to reinstall win98 with the modem working first and then do an upgrade to winXP, with the knowledge that the modem won't be tampered with. I was wrong the modem still didn't work.

Do you think it might be a driver problem? or is it just that it not compartable with winXP ? I've got the feeling that a new modem is the solution.

Help me please anyone.

Yes my box dual boots Linux as well.
