Conflict with XP and NT on network

A couple of times my NT4 workstation has crashed, but it only seems to do it when the laptop (which has XP) is connected to the network. I use the NT machine as a server for the other PCs. and have had no trouble with it previously, either as server or as stand alone. Any ideas? The error message I get is upon bootup - last known configuration not found, so I have to reinstall NT to fix.
