Question CPU Identifier in Windows 98

I've written a program to change the cpu identifier in the registry in Windows. The program works allright, it changes the registry string. But in Windows 98 the registry string is automatically updated/restored with it's original value every time I view Properties on My Computer to see what cpu you have. In Win2k this is not a problem. It is very important to me to write a program that can fix this in Windows 98. Could anyone please help me?

yes. find out which api function is used for identifying the CPU and patch this. or write a .vxd (a virtual CPU driver? why not )

Yeah.. the only proplem is to get the API. I've searched the web (planetsourcecode etc.) without finding anything. I don't know what to do.
