Crash/update

I have just had a total PC crash, after reinstalling everything (I'm using ME by the way) I'm getting some error messages when I try to log in to programmes like Pogo.com (games site) or an on line scrabble site, can anyone help?
I'm thinking of getting XP Pro,can format my ME edition first or do I have to install while ME is still on the hard drive?
Please forgive my ignorance,I'm still quite new to computing.
Thankyou.

You can format your drive before installing XP. The XP cd is bootable, so just be sure your bios is set to look for the cd drive to boot from, then you can format your hard drive and start with the XP cd in, and install away.
