display the previous command entered on the DOS window.
Windows 2000 and 2000 server
Start --> Run --> command How do you turn on the feature where it show you the previous command that you type on the DOS window. I did tried the UP-ARROW, DOWN-ARROW, LEFT-ARROW, and RIGHT-ARROW, but nothing showed up. In other Windows 2000 professional, it did display, while others won 't. |

Hi Tom Myboy. Thank you for your help.
I did type in a command in a DOS window like ipconfig, and then I press the function key "F3", but it did not gives me the last command that I entered. this is a newly installed Windows 2000 Professional with very few software installed. It can 't be a system .DLL conflict that caused this. This maybe a feature that needs to be turned on (maybe in the registry). |

Hey,
The F3 command is only good for the current command prompt window. You close the window and you loose the previous commands you typed in. hope this helps you out Tom |

Hi. I never closed the DOS window. I type in a command, press ENTER. then F3, but it does not work. Another user suggested this: type in doskey then press ENTER. I did that, but to no avail.

Wow, that's strange. F3 works with all versions of Windows including DOS.
You may want to run the System File Checker Start > Run > sfc /scannow good luck Tom |

Hi Tom Myboy. I ran that command and it asked for a Win2K CD-ROM. I put it in, it scan the CD for several minutes and then stop.

System files must be OK then. I guess if this is enough of an inconvenience, you could do a repair installation.
This happens on Server and Pro? I just checked a Pro machine amd it works fine. |

Hi Tom Myboy. The answer is cmd.exe not command.com.
