Entries in host file will not resolve

I have the host file on my XP machine setup to allow me to browse my local webserver on several domains. For example:

    127.0.0.1 www.example.com

This works well when I am online. When I pull my network cable out of the back of the computer this still works well.

My problem is that when my Window XP LAN connection is disabled in the Network Connections dialogue, none of the entries in my host file are able to resolve.

How can I get entries in my host file to resolve when Window XP LAN connection is disabled in the Network Connections dialogue?

what is the point of disabling your lan connection?

You can't "fix" that. No lan interface = no tcp/ip = no name resolution.

You can't kill the horse and then expect it to give you a ride home.
