Hi all!
I’ve got an issue with a Windows XP Pro Corporate Edition Machine. The machine is actually a co-workers of mine, and since I like solving things, especially for beautiful co-workers I thought I’d give it a go. My research led me to the devshed.com forums and the following thread; http://forums.devshed.com/t91609/s.html. That thread revealed a problem very similar to mine. They were seeing the message; The error signature: AppName: explorer.exe ModName: mshtml.dll ModVer: 6.0.2600.0 Offset: 001a23a3 The issue this person was dealing with was resolved by running the latest version of “Spybot”. My error message reads like this; “Internet has encountered a problem and needs to close” then I get the message Error Signature AppName: Iexplorer.exe ModVer: 5.1.2600.29 Like the person in the forum thread mentioned above, this happens when trying to access links from within web pages, or when trying to open a second session of Internet Explorer. The latest version of Spybot was download and installed and an attempt to update the software was made with nothing offered from the Spybot site (Perhaps because this is free version of their software??). Anyway after running the Spybot software and cleaning the infected files, the problem still persisted. I was thinking of trying the SFC/SCANNOW tool. What are your thoughts on that as a viable approach to resolving this? If any of you have seen this problem before and resolved it, I’d love to here from you. Cheers, |

Before sfc, I'd clean out your history and temporary internet files. Run a virus scan and spybot/adaware. Do all the windows updates. Then run sfc.

I concur. Always make your system up to date and check for virii first. Also it may help to have your beautiful co worker strip down naked while you fix the problem. I find that usually helps

Thanks Guys....But
Thanks guys for the advice. Especially the "stripped down co-worker". Believe me I'd pay HER to fix her machine if I could get that. Alas, I think I'm just meant to dream of that day. Oh well, back to the problem at hend.
She has performaed a Virus Scan using Norton Anti-virus 2003 with updated definitions. I have provided her Spybot as well as the latest updates. She says shes followed the directions I provided, culprits WERE found and dealt with, but the issue still remains, although a little less destructive. Too explain, previuosly she recieved this error message when clicking on any link within a web page, or when trying to open a 2nd instance of Internet Explorer. Now she can click on a link and get it to open, but, trying to open a second instance of Internet Explorer still results in the error message. So is it time for SFC?! Does anyone have any other suggestions?! Thanks to everyone for letting me pick their brains, Cheers, |

Thanks for the new Lead Tom
I think I'll go ahead and put that on my flow chart of potential fixes.
I'll report in when I've found something out. Meanwhile anyone else here that has an idea, I'm still open. Cheers, |
