FireWall, open port?

FireWall, open port?
How can i know if i have an open port, and how to close it and how to install a firewall to increase security. Im currently running win98 but planning to switch to XP/2k. Which is better? Thanks for help.

To find out if you have an open port, try running a port scanner on your ip. This will return a list of all open ports on your computer.
There are many firwalls out there for windows (EX. Zone Alarm, and Black ICE). Installing them is no different then installing any other program on windows.

If i can find any open ports, how can i close them? Are you saying if i install firewall, it'll close all that open ports?
