Help! dont know my password for Win XP. I'm locked out

Unhappy Help! dont know my password for Win XP. I'm locked out
I just updated my operating system from Windows 95 to Windows XP. After completion it asked me what were the names of everyone using the system. I just entered my name and guess then hit "ok". The system never asked for any passwords. It went straight to the prompt that had my name and guess there. So now I cannot log on to my system unless I know the password which it never gave me a chance to add.
Is there any other way for me to get into my system to update my password?
Please help : (

Thanks but do you have any other sudgestions
I tried emailing them and I got no response yet. Can you recommend another techniques?

use safemode to get into your system, then change the password, make a new account, or remove one through the control panel or Computer Management(found under administrative tools)

if that works, its just a guess...
