Exclamation HELP!! i messed up in regedit, now nothing works!

okay, i did something really stupid. my ie was opening to porn pages whenever i typed a url in the address bar. so i went into regedit, and found the urls my browser was going to and deleted all instances of them. and..u probably guessed that i didn't make a backup.

afterwards, explorer wouldn't open urls unless i manually typed URL so i thought i would go in and add that to the registry in: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPrefix

now, everything (all extensions including exe, folders, preferences, etc) is being opened in my default browser, netscape. the address bar says something like... URL
i can't open regedit or any other program for that matter, so i don't think i can install and run some other text editor?

the only programs i can use (because they were already opened before i edited the registry) are a text editor and internet explorer (at least no more porn), and of course, netscape will open.

somebody please HELP!!!!

This is why you don't go messing around in the registry without a backup and a clue. Hopefully you've been keeping backups of your other files, so you can just reformat and consider this a lesson.

would be nice if you told us the operating system .windows ME, and XP, if it loads into windows try going to all programs, accessories, system tools system restore. if that dont get it try going to start, then run, type msconfig then ok it to run, launch system restore from the page that appears. Windows 2000,and XP turn the computer on, after the initial bios screen, start tapping the F8 key until a boot menu appears, try last known good configuration. Windows 98 go to start, then shut down, then when the shut down menu appears, put a dot in restart in msdos, when dos loads, type scanreg / restore , then follow the instructions, restore to a time when it worked.

regedit messed up for me too

Hey guys,
I had a problem running easy cd creator , from roxio when i updated to windows xp, and the fix it gave me to do, was to go into regedit and delete a few lines... now when i start windows the mouse and keyboard do not work... the keyboard works before windows begins, because i can press f8 and f2 to get to the bios or safe mode windows, but even in safe mode my keyboard and mouse do not work... any advice? i think i need to get to regedit and fix it somehow before xp begins... ???? please help...
