How to access CD-ROM or USB drives from cmd

I'm trying to recover the Vista bootloader , but I don't know any commands for Windows. I have booted to the Vista installation DVD and went to "repair" and am at the command prompt now. I am trying to use bootsect.exe but it is not included on the DVD so now I need to figure out how to access it from my USB or CD-ROM.

I have found the MOUNTVOL command, but how do I find the volume information to mount? Also, if I insert a CD should I be able to access it right away? I guess I'd just need to guess which drive letter it is.

Any help with how to mount a flash drive and access the files (or on how to recover the bootloader) would be appreciated.

you should be able to mount the flash drive by entering the drive letter followed by :/

i.e. F:/ (if "F" is the drive letter of the flash drive)

enter dir to list the files/folders on the drive

[edit]

cd H:/ or cd H:\

On a side note, if you boot from the Vista DVD and tell it to scan for startup errors it should repair the bootloader that Vista uses (I think it's something like bcd store).
