Post Difficult!!

This is a huge head ache!

First off your boot partition needs to be FAT32 to multiboot with anything below windows 2000.

You need to create another partition for win98, if your xp partition if NTFS you wont be able to access any of the files from win98,

before you start changing any partitions make a set of emergancy repair disks. to do this you need to open windows backup and select: emergancy repair disk*

steps as follows...

1, backup everything you can't afford to loose
2, create ER* Disks
3, create a primary partition formatted as FAT32 (use partition magic)
4, install 98 in the FAT32 partition
5, boot the machine using the ERD's
6, get down on your knees and pray to the heaven's (really!)
7, you will now have a machine that looks the same as before, except you have a second partition with 98 on it
8, edit the boot.ini file with your entry, it'll be something like this...

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 98 SE"
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

this will take hours and there is >>>>>>>>>> NO! <<<<<<<<< sure way to say if it will work properly.

If you take my advice buy a CDRW (if you don't have one) back everything up.

FDISK your drive and create 2 partitions, install 98, then install XP

D.
