IE6 jumping after using the mouse wheel...
I recently found this: I scroll up/down long pages in IE6 (german, XP Home, SP1) using my mouse wheel. Then I try to click on a link (say "Linux" in the devshed forums) and the page scrolls down about 50px in the moment i click so that i am led to the link that is below my cursor then (eg. it was "Operating Systems" where i landed). Sometimes it is that fast that i canīt even see it happening.
I klick the wheel and move the mouse up/down, i didīt test with scrolling the wheel instead yet and it only happens from time to time... Still annoying though. First i thought i got a virus or something, but itīs reproducable on other machines that i have access to but are not connected nor have ever been and all of them are scanned regularly with McAfee or Norton. To avoid questions about my own stupidity: The page was completely loaded and i have JavaScript disabled. ![]() Where else does this problem appear and does anyone have a solution to it (besides not using the wheel)?

It almost sounds like this weird mouse problem I have with IE6. I'm using the Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse (or whatever it's called), and sometimes the page scrolls really fast up and down as if I'm dragging the scroll bar up and down extremely fast, and it seems the only way to stop it is to click down on the mouse wheel button. Happens once in a while, but don't know why. I say it's more of the mouse's (possibly software) problem for me.

I Investigated further on this problem. All of the PCs that this happened on had a cordless mouse. And it happens more often, if i press a button for a long time. like dragging a scroll-bar when i'm reading a long text.
Now i think the problem is the cordless mice, maybe non-constant power from the batteries? At home i can't revert back to another one as i need to control my PC with the mouse from my couch. But at work i will make some more tests tomorrow... Hope i get my IR-control working soon, then i'll get rid of the cordless mouse too ![]() Is your "Optical Wheel Mouse" also cordless? |

I think i tracked it down...
It was two problems at once: 1. the cordless mice transmit false data if you press buttons for a long time. 2. My WinXP Home SP1 does have a bug where a list that you click on can jump up or down several items directly when clicking... it also happens eg. in the font-dropdown for MS-Word sometimes...Micro****... But then - i installed a new "Woody" box on the weekend. Took me 2 minutes to crash konqueror and another 10 for the whole X system... which of these is the lesser evil now?maybe i should convert back to the commandline completely. i never crashed a linux system using bash... ![]() |
