Internet Explorer 6.0 related problem

I need help!
Somehow and from somewhere an 'alien' web address gets inserted into my 'Home' web address (Tools/Internet Options/Home page). How is this happening and how can I cure it permanently? Where is it coming from? is it in a file somewhere on my system.
Also I have another problem. When I boot my PC I get a 'pop-up' window appearing on my desktop. Where has it come from? How do I get rid of it? etc....
These problems are driving me nuts !!!
Thanks for the help (in anticipation).

Try getting spybot or adaware and scan your computer for spyware programs. You can get spybot from http://security.kolla.de

could also be a virus, like a j/s seeker, if the spyware tools recommended above dont fix you up, try a online virus scan like panda, housecall, or rav.
