Java takes forever (and a day) to load

I have a question about java. I occasionally put put small java applets in pages I design. On my laptop with XP Pro, it seems when I go to a page, using IE, even the tiniest applet, such as the one at http://www.rtbrentals.com seems to take up to a minute for the java to load. Also, when I go to a page with a lake applet, such as the one you see at www.hhenningsen.com or www.europewithasmile.com, my lake "ripple" looks like a TV screen with nothing but static, so to speak. An example of this can be seen from a screen shot I took, go to http://callagy.netdbs.com/java.jpg

Thanks so much, here is my java system information:

    Java(TM) Plug-in: Version 1.4.1_02
Using JRE version 1.4.1_02 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
User home directory = C:\Documents and Settings\Thomas Hall

    Proxy Configuration: No proxy
    ----------------------------------------------------
    c: clear console window
f: finalize objects on finalization queue
    g: garbage collect
    h: display this help message
    l: dump classloader list
    m: print memory usage
    o: trigger logging
    p: reload proxy configuration
    q: hide console
    r: reload policy configuration
    s: dump system properties
    t: dump thread list
    v: dump thread stack
    x: clear classloader cache
0-5: set trace level to <n>

Have you tried this in other browsers? I just tried it under Solaris x86, Java(TM) Plug-in: Version 1.4.2_04, Mozilla 1.7 and it looks fine. All applets loaded in about 5 seconds. I'm on a DSL line with a 3.2Ghz machine.

    Don't use applets.

Post moved - this is not a Java programming issue, but a Windows/system configuration/usage issue.
