... how hard is that?
I used to use Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum, but it was busted on XP, so I got their updater and updated my drive support, etc. Now, it knows the drive is there and usable, but I get another error when I try to start. Roxio claims a worm is to blame, Norton is updated with that particular definition and doesn't find said worm anywhere, so I figure the problem is a combination between "WinXP sucks" and "Roxio sucks". So... what on earth can I use that will be capable of burning an iso file to a CD-ROM on a WinXP system? I don't particularly feel like test-driving 10 different $50 software packages only to find out that they're broken on XP anyway.... anyone have something they use that works? Thanks, Chris |

I'm a big fan of Nero. Something called "Nero Express" is out there and tries to be like Roxio, being all helpful and doing things for you. The standard Nero (maybe titled "Nero Burning ROM") is pretty good about doing what you tell it to do and nothing else. One of the tasks you can tell it to do is, yes, burn an .iso image (also supports .cue and .nrg formats).
You can swing by http://www.nero.com/ and download a trial version before taking the $ plunge. Also, I've used it extensively in Windows 2000, not in XP, though I doubt there's much difference.

I use Nero Burning ROM all the time at work on my NT 4.0 box. It seems to work pretty well as a package, though I hate it's 'friendliness'. But then, I didn't like Roxio's in-your-face wizards either. I just want something that will burn the stupid ISO and be done with it! Ack!
Hey - thanks for reminding me about Nero, I'll go grab the trial and see if it works on XP. Thanks! |

iso
on xp you have to disable the on board cd software when you have third party, it may work fine for a while, or maqy be little things, go to start /run/ type msconfig click ok go to the services tab, take the check out of the cd burning and apply reboot, may have to reinstall ez cd creator for it to work correctly

Nero works well for me in XP. I use both the built-in XP cd burning software, and Nero on XP Pro. You need Nero or some other 3rd party program to make a cd from an ISO image.

Burn4Free ( URL , or URL for Download.com details) works just fine for me, burning ISOs like a charm.
