List users on NT domain from a command line.
I come from the Novell world where life was simple and a standard "whois" command would list all users logged on to the server at the moment. Well. as wonderful as Windows Server is I'm frustrated that our NT (4.0) domain does not provide a similar capability. This is such a simple need that I'm baffled that I can't find a solution. Maybe I'm just stumbling in the dark and someone can switch on a light for me?
Specifically - I need a command line utility (something I can call from a batch file) that would return a list of users currently logged in to the domain. It would be even better if the output list included the date/time they most recently logged in, and/or maybe the workstation ID - but I can make do without that. Is there such a utility out there? Or have I simply overlooked something very obvious? I need one that runs without user interaction (no GUI). Unless of course it is a gui app that also supports command line options and can redirect the output to a text file. Thanks for any insight. |

Okay, after doggedly searching for a whoson utility, I stumbled upon the UsrStat.exe utility in the NT Resource Kit. Its almost a solution.
It does what I want - BUT the output is unreliable. Apparently there is some confusion for this utility depending on which Domain Controller logged the user in. I've got users logged in today that show a week old login date in the output of UsrStat.exe. I'm closer - but not quite a working solution. Suggestions? |
