lsass.exe issue Win2000 OS doesnt boots

hi..My system win2k was working properly until recently i am getting a error msg that an exception occured with lsass.exe and ur system will reboot!
after this a exception error on blue bkacground screen appears..
what has gone wrong with my OS
i ran in the safe mode and it booted ok and then again i tried with normal mode..same error repeats..should i replace this exe..
any suggestions wud be welcome as i cant use my system.

(i added another IDE drive to my system, can this impact anything)

I would boot from the CD and perform a "Fast Repair" following these instructions:

I should add if your CD is not bootable and you have not created the ERD boot floppy, create the Setup Boot Disks and boot from them. Here's a link for creating them:

I would try that..i dont have a bootable cd , but do have boot disks..so should i try to repair the existing OS? i will post you the results by tomorrow..thanks
