Modem stops working after 10 mins

I have XP, and everything was fine for months then suddenly my modem started to freeze or lock up after 10 minutes of connection. I haven't installed anything dodgy recently and haven't changed any settings.

I've queried the modem and get a response, basically everything works fine after connection (on a dial up) and I can browse for the first 5 or ten minutes, then everything goes dead I get DNS errors on my requested pages and when I look at my connection status now data is being processed.

does anyone know what's causing this or can point me in the right direction.

could be many reasons. the three most common imho are:
- your modem is overheating and going to break very soon.
- your provider is crappy
- you got a virus or similar.

i developed a problem with a USB ADSL modem after i installed a second CPU.

after a few minutes the machine would give me BSOD

turns out that windows has a problem with certain USB controllers when using the multi CPU HAL.
