I wanted to remove Messenger from one of our laptops, and I used the way of this site; the "Remove Messenger from XP"-section. I typed "RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove" to start menu's "Run..."-app and it gave me a warning something like "Can't delete file "XYZ0B123123", but on the other hand it said "success". I tried this few times, checking the spelling and finally copy-pasteing it from the browser. I also tried to shut down all other apps and it still didn't work. I went to regedit and removed the Folder "MessengerService" from LOCAL_MACHINE --> software --> microsoft.
Now I thought: "all right, let's boot and see how it goes - this is just a routine operation and, ffs, worked before!" After booting, the antivirus software and the email-app (not outlook) didn't work. It complained about a missing file "MSVCP50.DLL" and said, that "maybe reinstall would help" or sth.. Outlook, and some other programs worked fine, but the rest didn't. And I need them. I searched for the file, and search found it at I:\i386 named MSVCP50.DL_ (note the underscore - not the "L"-letter) Now my question is, that if I copy the file to the folder X (don't know, where it belongs), will it work, or could the XP's own recovery-system work (I don't have the admin password, so could be hard). It's been a few days since I did all this. The recovery-settings were set to keep the recovery-file big (12%). I need it up and running as fast as possible and I can't get access to admin rights... Whuut should I do? ![]() |

Well that file in the i386 folder is the one you need. You need to place it in the c:\windows\system32 folder.
you will then need to enter into the Run.. box regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\MSVCP50.dll This will register the DLL file with Windows. You should have just removed it from the start up section of the registy. This will stop Messenger from loading. |

Thanks dude, that worked!
BUT, it said "The file was [sth], but could not initiate DllRegisterServer [or sth], could not find a [free translation from finnish] startingpoint. Anyway, every program, I tried, worked - that good. I'll get back if there's a problem. Thanks again, I was in deep ****! EDIT: Man, I'm so happy. This is why it's great to have this public forums to discuss problems, without DevShed, I'd be hangin' myself ![]() |
