network and share internet
hi there i am planning to have a network on my 2 computers and share the internet to the other 1 so that when im using my 1st pc the other can do browse the net too
well here it goes i have 1st PC with win2k and redhat 9 win2k is on ntfs format while the 1nd computer is win2k and win98 win2k is on ntfs format too. i have an 8 port hub. so now what should i do and install for me to share my internet to the 2nd computer? can someone help me with this pls. thank you in advance |

once they are connected, make sure each PC can pickup an IP address. From there, you should be able to just go out to the internet (if you don't have any restriction in the firewall setup) and surf.

You don't mention a router so I have to assume you plan on using ICS [internet connection sharing] on W2K.
There are lots of how to do ICS on the web. In a nutshell you need two nics in the w2k box. One goes to the internet. The other goes to the other pc. PC one and two nics are assigned ip addresses in one subnet. The other nic in the w2k box gets its address from the isp. You enable forwarding between the cards. Now pc2 can access the internet as long as pc1 is on. Better/easier to have gotten a cable/dsl router and have your wksts connect directly to the internet. File system of ntfs has no effect on internet access |
