Newbie Question on Forums

Hello all, I'm a newbie in here. For the last hour I been looking around here. So far it look good to me.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I use to work for a E-compay as the computer tech. I would build computers and load software. But now I have to look for other job and most companies need admin for /NT/2000pr & Server.

My question is, which one of these forums would point me in the right direction on learning how to be a admin on windows box?

What steps do I need to start with?

I'm trying to learn NT/2000 pro & server/ XP pluse some other thing like SQL server / Exchange/ TCP-IP/DNS/Security Plus I bet that I'm missing something else.

I know how load the software but to maintain it a little big different. I bought me a book called "MCSE for Dummies" the book has 5 books in 1. I'm also trying to get my MCSE.

At home I'm running a win98 box plus a win2000 pro box. Right now Im building a linux box that is going to be running red hat 9 ... I look forward to that...

Thank you for all the good help

Louie

learning how to admin on a windows box: amazon.com sells a lot of books about that, but make sure they are up on security - cause windows makes it easy to do the job and some admins can be in the dark to what they have actually done.

if u really want to learn to admin, do it first on a nix box. u have to start on the bottom there, it will take u a lot of time learning about it - most of the questions about it are answered on line some where, google is a great help. when you get far enough, u will find that u know more about what ur os is actually doing, what security flaws there is to be taken advantage of and so on. u will probably be more skilled than ur windows counter part. windows admining is a step down from nix admining.

if u decide to keep posting here, look at the rules on the php section. they not enforced by a strict admin or anything but some people wont help u if they broken and they most likely will be the experts.....(thats 'cause they tell u what not to say so u dont annoy anyone!)
