The last couple of weeks whenever I go to my Outlook Express 6.0 to check my email, all of a sudden it freezes up.
I click the [X] in the upper right-hand corner to Close the page and a little box appears on which I click END NOW. Nothing happens. I then go down to the System Tray and click CLOSE. Nothing happens. I then click Ctrl, Alt and Delete and Delete the top item. Nothing happens. The only way I can get the page to disappear is to Shut Down my PC and Reboot it. Sometimes this will work & other times it won't. I am a Beginner & understand English real good but do not understand Computer Talk. |

How long do you wait to see if it comes back to responding?

Was any piece of software installed close to the time you noticed this problem?
I would also suggest running CCleaner. The registry cleaner for this fixes quite a few problems I've encountered... |

How big is your message base?
If you've got 1000's of email messages taking up 100's of MB of disk space, then sure, it's going to take a while. Patience while it processes them, then some serious pruning and archiving (start by deleting the spam and trash can).

I've seen something similar but with Outlook. It was an I-Tunes add-on. Try disabling any add-ons that may be in use with Outlook Express (including anti-virus software).

Outbreak Express, eek !
Does it happen every time you close down OE ? Sounds like your mail file is getting too big. Time to delete messages, archive and then compact the mail database.

You could try compacting your mail folders

Yes, but after waiting 2-3 minutes for it to be sent I just delete it and use a 2nd E-Mail Server to either Reply or Forward by copying it and then pasting it. It's a real pain but at least I'm able to Reply or Forward to a friend. Thanks. |

I'm willing to try anything that will work.
How do I compact my E-Mail Folders? Thanks. |

Right-click on a folder, then properties (IIRC).
Somewhere in that context menu (or things you can get from the context menu) is compact. |

The account you are having problems sending with, does it hang on receiving mail for that account too then pop-up an error code or does it receive fine ?
I'm guessing that you're using XP, if so, do you have the install cd ? |

aitken325i.....You and I have been e-mailing back & forth since June 18 now and I don't want to take up any more of your time. I've decided to just use my 2nd E-Mail Server and not try to Send or Reply with O.E. any longer. I want you to know I really appreciate all the help/suggestions you have given me but I think it's time to end it now. Again, my thanks. |
