outlook express mapi error when exporting

Im not sure is this is really the right board to post this on but im sure someone may have a solution.
When i try to export emails in outlook express 6 on windows xp, i get an error while initializing mapi box popup.

i have read the microsoft knowledge base about it. i found an article describing my exact problem. say i had to untick a box saying "make default mapi client" this tick box was no where to be found on the options in outlook express.
it did say the article was only for upto outlook express 5.5

please could any one with information how to fix this problem.
id be most appreciative.

regards
rob

I had the same problem; it's a corruption issue and reinstalling the OS should correct it.

Do you mean reinstalling outlook express 6? or the whole machine?

I'm trying to transfer all the current emails from one machine at our company to another so this one can be reformatted.

Problem is if i haveto reformat to get this error fixed it kinda defeats the purpose of exporting the emails....

Levon, similar problem

Windows XP's Files and Setting Transfer Wizard does a good job of backing up (in preparation of reformatting). While I can't get my OE6 to export, I was able to use F.A.S.T. and all my stuff is here.
I still await an answer. I have posted here URL also
Hope this helps

Answer to the MAPI problem

If you do not have Outlook nor Exchamge on your computer, you can not use the file/export/messages tool as it will result in the error message.

To make a backup copy of your Outlook Express e-mail message files:

1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
2. On the Maintenance tab, click Store Folder.
3. Select the folder location, and then press CTRL+C to copy the location.
4. Click Cancel, and then click Cancel again to close the dialog box.
5. Click Start, and then click Run.
6. In the Open box, press CTRL+V, and then click OK.
7. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
8. On the Edit menu, click Copy, and then close the window.
9. Right-click any empty space on your desktop, click New, and then click Folder.
10. Type mail backup for the folder name, and then press ENTER.
11. Double-click the Mail Backup folder to open it.
12. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
13. Close the Mail Backup window.
